Barrie Council recognition Night!
It's not everyday a Female Athlete is recognized for their accomplishments. Especially a Female Firefighter... For one, it might not be the "MOST Common" occupation for women. And secondly, It's A FEMALE!
I would be lying if I said "I wasn't Smiling the Entire Time"! I was so privileged to be standing at the podium with the Mayor of Barrie - Jeff Leman. But what really made me Proud and giddy is that an entire City has a Female infront of them who has accomplished some of her Goals and Dreams, and everyone in the room are cheering for her!!!
In this case it's ME. But one day, I hope to be apart of many ceremonies for other Females who have reached their Dreams!
I am a complete feminist when it comes to athletics and careers. Now let me explain something to people who may think a feminist is a "Man Hater". It's NOT...
I believe in equality IF and I say "IF", (as a huge benchmark) if 2 people are equal in their abilities both Physically and Intellectually.
At this point, the gender card should be put aside and the BEST PERSON for the job/sport should win the position.
Too many times, we see the male securing the position, but why?
Look at Professional athletics... Male sports dominate the Media Coverage. Yet, females athletes overall "Give BACK to their sports" more often. Have you ever seen an NHL player walk away from a line of kids looking for an autograph?
More frequent then I want to admit, right....
Yet, go to a CWHL (Canadian Women's Hockey League) game, and those women athletes will stay for hours after their games to make sure EVERY SINGLE kid walks away with an autograph or even something more!
OK that's my 2 cents about top end athletes... Let me quickly make an example of minor sports.
If you take your Daughters sports team and your sons... 9 times out of 10, the female athletic team will still be looking for a SPONSOR towards the end of their season. When the male team had theirs secured within the first few weeks of their season.
But WHY? Why does this have to happen like this?
Don't get me wrong, times are changing. There are GREAT people out there who give back to both genders. Companies, individuals and more are sharing their support with multiple teams/athletes which makes me extremely happy!
In my perfect world, I want everyone to be able to play/participate in their sport/hobby of choice with no financial difficulty or lack of support.
However, we all know that's not the case.
After All my challenges throughout my life so far, I've decided to "GIVE BACK" to my community. I am in the process of starting a local charity!
FIT by Fire will hopefully become a charity in which kids can find financial support as well as mentor support to accomplish their dreams!!!
Funding will come from clients who participate in fitness programs, hockey events and generous donations from companies/individuals.
We want people to be able to set Goals and strive for success without having to worry about the other factors.
If you want to help Fit by Fire, starting spreading the word. It's people within the community that are helping create a "give and receive" charity. Your time and efforts could result in watching another local kid stand in front of council with a smile on their face!
Let's Start something that has NO Limits!
